Kira Aderka, the daughter of a wealthy merchant from the Forest Country, is content with her quiet, measured life. But one day she is struck by a curse – and since then every night she falls into the Underworld, the realm of snakes and their frightening spells. Deprived of sleep and peace, Kira grows weaker and realizes that her days are numbered.
