«Cinderella» — one of the most famous stories, the plot of which has been embodied in the fairy tales of different peoples around the world. The fairy tale was first discovered in ancient Egyptian papyri. But the most popular version...
turned out to be that of the French writer and collector of folk tales Charles Perrault. This is not surprising. After all, it is Perrault's «Cinderella» that is filled with sparkling lightness, irony, and joy. It lacks the cruelty and vengefulness of the German version of the tale by the Brothers Grimm or the emotional extravagance of «The Cat Cinderella» by the Italian Giambattista Basile.
For this edition, we have retranslated the first edition of Charles Perrault's fairy tale from 1675.
And the artist Anton Lomaev accompanied it with illustrations, sending the reader to France in the 17th century — the century of brilliant kings and court intrigues, magnificent balls, gilded carriages, and musketeers, a century of golden fairy tales.
