Geese-Swans

The treacherous geese-swans kidnapped little Vanya and took him to Baba Yaga. This is the fault of his older sister Masha: she got carried away and forgot about her brother. The girl sets off in search of Vanya and eventually rescues him from Baba Yaga, despite the difficult search and the hazardous escape.

The fairy tale teaches children to listen to adults and to be able to correct their mistakes. This moral lesson is expressed very poetically. Masha learns the wisdom of life thanks to the magical talking characters – the stove, the little apple tree, the river, the hedgehog. They help her find Vanya and safely return home. They also intervene for the children when they find themselves in danger.

The plot of the fairy tale as narrated by folklorist Mikhail Bulatov is good in its simplicity and accessibility for children's perception. Equally simple, child-friendly illustrations are created by artist Ivan Kuznetsov. This book is well known to older generations in black and white. With the consent of the artist's heirs, the publishing house "Melik-Pashaev" has carefully colored the illustrations.
