Anatoly Stepanovich Ivanov (1928–1999) – a Soviet writer and screenwriter. Almost all of his work is dedicated to his native Siberian land. Two of his works – the large-scale epics "Eternal Call" and "Shadows Disappear at Noon" – were adapted...
into films and brought the author nationwide fame.
The focus of the epic novel "Eternal Call" is the story of several generations of the Saveliev family, natives of the distant Siberian village of Mikhailovka. The story covers more than half a century – from 1902 to 1961, and it is a very difficult time. The Saveliev brothers, their wives, and children endure all the dramatic events of the first half of the twentieth century – wars, revolutions, collectivization, and industrialization.
The heroes must go through many hardships. Family ties are put to serious tests more than once, and loved ones risk finding themselves on opposite sides of the barricades. The outbreak of the great war strips away the masks and reveals the true face of each person.
