Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet were destined to reconcile two feuding houses, but alas, only at the cost of their own lives. A touching feeling, barely born, meets insurmountable obstacles on its way - Romeo finds himself embroiled in bloody quarrels, Juliet... must submit to the will of her stern father... Brother Lorenzo, who married the lovers, comes to the rescue, but a fateful incident shatters all hopes for happiness and leads to tragedy.

The names of the characters have become common nouns, and the text has spread into quotes. The play still evokes a keen sense of empathy in readers and viewers.
Throughout all time, artists have been inspired by Shakespeare's plot and have created a rich gallery of images. The illustrations by Dementiy Shmarinov are part of this treasury.
