Mario Vargas Llosa (1936–2025) – a Peruvian writer, one of the outstanding representatives of Latin American prose, Nobel Prize laureate in Literature in 2010, winner of the Cervantes Prize and other prestigious awards, member of the French Academy, knight of the Legion of Honor.

In a cheap drinking establishment, two meet: Santiago Zavala, son of wealthy Peruvian bourgeois Fermín Zavala, and the Black Ambrosio, who once worked for them as a driver. Former master and servant; once they were separated by a chasm, and today they have come together in a shabby eatery with the pretentious name "Cathedral." Should we be surprised? After all, they live in a country of equal opportunities, where everyone has a chance – a chance to fall off the edge of life. By their own will or by the will of the wicked fate…
