Eternal Call. Volume 1

The focus of the epic novel "Eternal Call" is the story of several generations of the Saveliev family, natives of the remote Siberian village of Mikhailovka. The story spans more than half a century—from 1902 to 1961, a very challenging time. The brothers Saveliev, their wives, and children experience all the dramatic events of the first half of the twentieth century—wars, revolutions, collectivization, and industrialization.
The heroes have to endure many hardships. Family ties are repeatedly subjected to serious tests, and close people risk finding themselves on opposite sides of the barricades. The outbreak of the great war strips away the masks and reveals the true face of each.
What is more important—feelings or duty, personal safety or defense of the Motherland?
Each of the heroes answers this question in their own way and makes their own choice…

Anatoly Stepanovich Ivanov (1928—1999) was a writer and screenwriter. Virtually all of his work is dedicated to his native Siberian land. Two of his works—the grand epics "Eternal Call" and "Shadows Disappear at Noon"—were adapted into films.
