The Silent House

The collection includes two novels by the father of the Victorian detective story – Fergus Hume, the precursor to the great Conan Doyle.
In the novel "The Silent House," Lucian Denzil, a young London lawyer, lives next to a strange house... rumored to be haunted. When a mysterious murder occurs there, intrigued Lucian gets involved in the investigation and finds himself at the center of a complicated intrigue. How did the killer get into the locked house? What was the motive for the murder? And ultimately, who was actually killed in the Silent House? The police reach a dead end and close the case, but Lucian, driven by curiosity and love's passion, persists and continues to unravel the web of mysteries.
The second work in the collection, "Crime in the Wagon," is a convoluted murder story, where greed, blackmail, and romantic passions intertwine, but in the end, fidelity and moral nobility triumph.
