In the Ankh-Morpork Opera lives a Phantom. He hides his face behind a mask and lures innocent girls into his web, raising the best singers in the world from them. The owners of the Opera had no objections to this... until the Phantom started killing people.

These murders threaten to ruin the operatic debut of young Perdita (born Agnes): a failed witch who ran away from a mountain village to the big city. Moreover, even the possibility of meeting the Phantom tempts her more than the prospect of joining the witch coven represented by nanny Yagg and mother Vetrovosk.

Only mother has a different opinion on this matter. And no ghosts will stop her from bringing the lost witch home, while also conquering Ankh-Morpork!
