The Painted Veil. A Reading Book in English. Level B1

The title of the novel "The Painted Veil", written in 1925 by British classic W. Somerset Maugham, reflects the lines of the sonnet by Percy Bysshe Shelley "Lift not the painted veil which those who live call Life": "O, lift not the painted veil which those who live call Life." The reader can expect a journey that takes them beyond the ordinary reality, full of desperate searches and deep insights. After going through difficult trials of love and betrayal, and looking into the eyes of death, the main character gains an understanding of herself and comes to re-evaluate her own life.
