A. S. Griboedov (1795–1829), whose literary legacy includes about thirty works, entered the history of literature only with the poem-comedy "Woe from Wit" (1824). A day in the life of a Moscow house - a love story and a large-scale... picture of morals, a bitter satire by the author, has become one of the heights of Russian dramaturgy and poetry and has later been widely quoted.

The historical atmosphere of the comedy is recreated in vivid images of its characters by the illustrations of N. V. Kuzmin.
