Tsar Darian

The early 1990s, Dushanbe. A young philologist, an employee of the Academy of Sciences, falls passionately in love with a girl from a Tajik patriarchal family, the daughter of a significant figure in Tajikistan. The premonition of an impending civil war prompts her father to agree to the marriage, but with certain conditions. The happy newlyweds depart for Moscow, and at the last moment, the protagonist receives an unexpected gift from his friend – a book, or rather, a manuscript about Tsar Darian.
Happiness did not last long, and in a moment of the deepest despair, the hero remembers the gift. The story of the long-suffering Tsar Darian and the story of the scribe Athanasius Patrin intertwine with the protagonist's story - three plot lines, separated by centuries, suddenly intertwine, turning into an amazing polyphonic tapestry. «Tsar Darian» is a novel about how throughout all ages, people experience the same feelings, dream of the same things. It is a novel about despair and consolation, about searching and finding, about a time that can truly heal.
