The Turn of the Screw

In 1898, one of the most famous ghost stories saw the light, a little masterpiece that served as the literary basis for numerous theatrical productions and more than a dozen adaptations, — the novella by American writer Henry James "The Turn of the Screw". In James's interpretation, the classic plot about a governess who arrives at the secluded estate of Bly to care for the orphaned children transcended the usual boundaries of Gothic literature, evolving into a sophisticated and frightening narrative about the mysteries of existence and the dark corners of consciousness, about a world where any truth can be challenged and where each event may be followed by another "twist of fate" that governs human life.
