Slavs. Myths and Legends

The immense and majestic world of Slavic mythology, rivaling the beauty and richness of the myths of Ancient Greece and Rome, remains a mystery not only for ordinary readers but also for scholars. Our book is based on the works of Russian historians, philologists, and researchers of Slavic folklore from the 19th to the early 20th century and includes stories about all Slavic gods, magical and fantastic beings from legends and traditions—from mermaids and household spirits to anchutkas, storytellers, and bosorkuns.

A separate chapter is devoted to the hero-warriors, whose stories have been recreated from numerous bylins, fairy tales, and folk songs. 

Slavic sagas, myths about the creation of the world, the structure of the Universe, information about rituals and ceremonies of Ancient Rus'—the key not only to the vast treasury of Russian folk traditions but also, to a large extent, to the entire spiritual foundation of Russian life and Russian culture as a whole.
