The hero of this memoir is the remarkable writer Samuel Lurie – a continuer of the traditions of the criticism of Innokenty Annensky and Korney Chukovsky, the prose of Osip Mandelstam and Boris Pasternak, the author of the novel "Literary... Critic Pisariev" and the treatise "The Broken Ell". During his lifetime, he was called the best critic in Russia, although in essence, everything he wrote – of course, is excellent prose. He was a passionate enlightener and a worthy conversationalist for geniuses, a witty, sincere, and generous friend. The friends and colleagues of Samuel Lurie painted a collective portrait of a man with whom they were fortunate to live and work.
