French Revolution

The French Revolution of the 18th century is unique in that its experience has been in demand and relevant for more than two centuries. It is a reference point and a matrix for all subsequent revolutions, whose participants looked up... to it, imitating it or trying to surpass it. It is no surprise that even today historians and sociologists see it as an ideal model for studying the dynamics of revolutions in general and uncovering their common patterns; they turn to its experience again and again, trying to understand how revolutions occur and how they develop. The people who lived more than two centuries ago, with their powdered wigs and frock coats, were not as distant from us as it may seem at first glance.
