This edition contains three plays by Vladimir Mayakovsky. "The Bedbug" and "The Bathhouse" were created in the late 1920s. Both plays share a satirical character of the events — the author ruthlessly ridicules all the social vices of that time:... bureaucratism and opportunism, pretentiousness and bourgeoisie. "Buffoonery Mystery," on the other hand, was written in 1918, for the first anniversary of the October Revolution. This play was conceived by Mayakovsky as a heroic, epic, and satirical depiction of the era, so the farcical nature of the street show mixed with the revolutionary pathos and belief in the victory of the people. It is noteworthy that all three plays were staged by the famous director Vsevolod Meyerhold and became significant events in the history of Soviet theater.
