Martin Eden

The main novel by Jack London, "Martin Eden," was written over a century ago, yet it remains relevant and continues to stir the hearts of readers. This novel contains so much: a story of true love, a story of the... formation of a creative personality, a story of struggle against society, and ultimately the victory of the creator. A victory that comes at a terrible price. "Martin Eden" has a particular poignancy and tragedy - the author poured much of his own experiences into it. Like his hero, Jack London faced rejections from publishers and was deceived and rejected more than once. He went hungry, giving all his strength to art, earning money through hard labor at sea and in a steam laundry. He went against all odds and finally found fame and recognition. The illustrations by the Petersburg artist Nikolai Lavrukhin are created in the best traditions of realistic drawing and add additional depth and authenticity to the text. The translation from English is by Sergey Zayitsky, edited by Evgenia Kalashnikova.
