Scarlet Sails

The great romantic Alexander Grin wrote «Scarlet Sails» — a wonderful romantic story about the love of captain Gray and the beautiful girl Assol — during the turbulent revolutionary times of the early 20th century. He created many other remarkable... works, but it is «Scarlet Sails» that is adapted into films, staged as ballets and dramatic performances, composed into musicals and rock operas, and even poems and songs are written about it. The graduation celebration in St. Petersburg is called «Scarlet Sails». Andrei Arinushkin is a well-known and beloved artist in the West. In Paris, where he moved from Minsk in 1999, he is called the «little Belarusian genius». However, the French are mistaken: Andrei is «big» both in age and height, and, importantly, in talent. The delicacy and mobility of his watercolors create the feeling of a living image. «Scarlet Sails» is the artist's first experience in illustrating Russian classics.
