Learning Chinese: 100 Basic Characters

More and more people are becoming interested in learning the Chinese language; however, many are intimidated by the Chinese character writing system, as it is vastly different from our familiar alphabetic one: the modern Chinese language uses about 5,000 characters.... How to remember them? Characters are divided into simple and complex, with only about 300 simple ones, while the rest consists of a multitude of complex characters that are combinations of simple elements, which trace back to pictographic images of the objects they represent.
