Daniel Schpek is a master of captivating dramatic family stories rooted in the past. The new novel is no exception, except that in this story the drama unfolds not during World War II, but in the blessed era of the 'flower children.' Berlin yoga teacher Lucy has never been to India, despite her profession. Her beloved father Low has long been stuck in the past, in the rock music of the 1960s and 70s, while her mother Corinna is a star television journalist with a brilliant career. One day Corinna disappears, and worried Lucy and Low begin a search that leads them to the famous Indian Rishikesh, a sacred city that held immense significance for hippies in the late 1960s, and has now essentially become the world capital of yoga.
In 1968, Low and his younger brother Mark, along with two girls, set off on a journey along the 'hippie road' to the famous ashram of guru Maharishi, which was also visited by the Beatles and their entourage. At the ashram, the four young Germans found themselves at the very center of the world's transcendental spiritual revolution, which would turn into a drama for them.
Schpek's novel is a love story, a family story, a spiritual journey, and a remarkably vivid portrait of the hippie era.
