The Dowryless Woman. The Storm

Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky is rightfully considered the founder of the national theater. This collection includes two of the most famous works of the playwright: "The Dowryless Woman" and "The Storm". The plot of "The Dowryless Woman" revolves around the relationships of the main heroine with three men: Karandyshev, the heroine's not wealthy suitor; Paratov, a rich and charming but frivolous man; and Vozhevatov, a representative of the large merchant class, indifferent to the feelings of others. Larisa, being dowryless, is forced to submit to her mother and marry for convenience. However, the girl dreams of true love and the freedom of choice. In "The Storm," the author explores the conflict between traditional values of society and the freedom of the individual. The main heroine, Katerina, suffers from the pressure of her mother-in-law, Kabanikha, a vivid representative of patriarchal society. The girl's inner conflict intensifies after meeting Boris, a man who seems to offer her freedom and love.
