The Dowry. The Thunderstorm

Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky is rightly considered the founder of the national theater. This collection includes two of the playwright's most famous works: "The Dowry" and "The Thunderstorm". The central plot of "The Dowry" revolves around the relationships of the main... heroine with three men: Karandyshev, the heroine's poor suitor; Paratov, a wealthy and charming but frivolous man; and Vozhevatov, a representative of the large merchant class, indifferent to the feelings of others. Larisa, being a dowryless girl, is forced to obey her mother and marry for financial reasons. However, the girl dreams of true love and the freedom to choose. In "The Thunderstorm," the author explores the conflict between the traditional values of society and the freedom of the individual. The main heroine, Katerina, suffers from the pressure exerted by her mother-in-law, Kabanikha, a vivid representative of patriarchal society. The girl's internal conflict intensifies after meeting Boris, a man who seems to offer her freedom and love.
