On Bolshoy Karetny

The book includes poetic and prose works by Vladimir Vysotsky related to the theme of Moscow. The capital of the 1960s and 1970s, captured by Vysotsky, looks surprisingly different today.

There Maryina Roshcha is a district of thieves' dens, and in Medvedkovo the metro has not yet been laid. There, after a drinking spree, one can wake up in a detox center, and for possessing currency—receive a sentence. 

There pedestrian crossings are marked with dotted lines, and free taxis flash green lights.

There, people go to the grocery store and to the "Beryozka," girls are escorted to the front door, and there are thugs standing on the streets...
