The Hum of the World

Lawrence Kramer (b. 1946) — an American musicologist and composer, professor at Fordham University (New York), a prominent figure of the "new musicology" movement, whose goal is to expand the field of music studies through interdisciplinary research of sound reality... in all its diverse aspects and its interaction with humans. The book "The Hum of the World," published in English in 2019, summarizes Kramer's explorations in this direction, solidifying the expansion of the field of sound studies with a new concept — audiable, which encompasses much more than sound, music, and the audible, and illustrating its relevance with numerous examples from classical and contemporary music, literature, philosophy, and other areas of culture.
