Wendigo

1793. Jean Verdier, a young officer of the Republic, goes with a detachment to the coast of Brittany to arrest Marquis Justinien de Saler, who is hiding in the ruins of an old tower. When the soldiers arrive at the site, they fall into a trap, but the aristocrat agrees to surrender on one condition: before his arrest, Jean must listen to his story. A story about how forty years ago several people, after a shipwreck, found themselves on the wild shores of Newfoundland, a story about cold, fear, and how loneliness and maddening hunger create monsters.
