Edogawa Rampo is one of the founders of Japanese detective fiction. The writer's real name is Hirai Taro. In his youth, he was fond of the detective stories of Edgar Allan Poe, so he decided to take a pseudonym that sounds similar to his idol's name – Edogawa Rampo. In the collection of stories, monsters hide in the darkness. They are lurking in the attic and watching a girl from the shadows. They kill a twin brother to take his place next to the beautiful wife. They hide in a large armchair and enjoy embraces with strangers. They force people to commit suicide in the cold moonlight. The famous detective Kogoro Akechi and other detectives are set to expose the monsters. Who will win this battle? In Rampo's stories, the Western detective tradition takes root in Japanese soil.
