Metropolis

"Metropolis" is a science fiction novel and at the same time a philosophical parable filled with biblical allusions. Against a backdrop that is unburdened by descriptions of technological progress, the author paints a grand picture of a technocratic society in which the brain of the great Metropolis rules the life of the city, and class struggle threatens to escalate into bloody war. But one day, the son of the ruler of the city, Freder, meets Maria, who predicts the coming of the Mediator, capable of resolving the problems of class enmity. The workers await change, and Freder, in love with Maria and devoted to the people, decides to part with his father and go his own way.
