Madame Pommeroy. The First Lady of Brut Champagne

The second novel in the "Champagne Widows" series offers a captivating picture of the courage, genius, and unyielding will of a woman who was ahead of her time. Rich in historical details and beautifully drawn characters, the novel immerses the reader in France in the mid-19th century, when social restrictions for women, the Franco-Prussian War, and male dominance in the champagne production sphere test the resilience of the indomitable Madam Pommery. Heartache, love and loss, widowhood and almost insurmountable problems could have led Madam Pommery to give up. But within her, a spark ignites, and she creates a brut champagne unlike any other – dry, elegant, defying sweet traditions.
