Clouds of Change

One day in the apartment of the main character — a writer, the phone rings: an old acquaintance calls him to the funeral of her son-in-law. A successful businessman has died suddenly, leaving nothing to his young wife. This event... evokes a chain of memories for the writer: a passionate romance with Liliana, the daughter of the moderately known Soviet director Vasily Kondrashov, trips to their summer house, walks during which he helped Kondrashov prepare for writing his memoirs, and finally, the sudden death of the old man. The idyllic relationship between the writer and Liliana is interrupted by Alexander — seemingly a prosperous entrepreneur, but only at first glance… This story has several plot lines, containing elements of thriller, adventure novel, and family saga. A puzzle-novel that deceives reader expectations page by page. "Clouds of Change" is a sort of "Crime and Punishment," not Dostoevsky, of course, but a masterfully stitched fabric, where instead of the old usurer there is a former director, who is killed by the deception of Alexander — the con artist who deprived the old man and his daughter of all their money. And instead of investigator Porfiry Petrovich, there is a writer creating a novel" (Maria Bushueva).
