The first volume of the work of the famous Polish historian, as well as the governor of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is dedicated to the exposition of events from the moment of the birth of the Polish state to the partitions of the Commonwealth at the end of the 18th century. Analyzing archival documents and critically reflecting on the numerous works of other scholars, the author presents historical facts impartially, allowing for an understanding of the deep processes occurring at that time not only in Poland but also throughout Europe, as well as grasping the causes of many events of today.
