The War of King Charles I. The Great Rebellion: the Transition from Monarchy to Republic. 1641–1647

This book by the English historian S.V. Wedgwood is a continuation of the historical drama about the reign of Charles I, begun in her book "The World of King Charles I." The author meticulously examines the causes of the civil war in England, Scotland, and Ireland in the 17th century, trying to evaluate the events of those years: the clash between Scottish Covenanters and Royalists, the national and religious uprising in Ireland, as well as the powerful popular movement in England, born out of religious disputes and social unrest, attempts to identify the origins of the demand for greater religious freedom, broader distribution of political power, greater rights for the people, which led to the arrest of Charles I.
