Turkey before the Ottoman Sultans. The Empire of the Great Seljuks, the Turkic State and the Rule of the Mongols

Historian and Orientalist, Islam expert Professor Claude Kazn in his work on medieval Turkey considers it to be a precursor to the Ottoman Empire. Providing an overview of the great era of the Seljuks, he discusses not only the peculiarities of the Muslim East but also the political and religious opposition of the dynasties that inhabited Asia — the Abbasids, Samanids, Buyids, the Seljuks themselves, and others, as well as various clans of Shiites and Sunnis... undermining the foundations of the hostile regimes. The author pays considerable attention to various social, economic, and institutional problems in pre-Mongolian Turkey and the changes brought about by the Mongolian invasion, the disintegration of the formed empire, and the rise of new types of principalities emerging from the ruins of both Byzantine and Seljuk states.
