In hospital room number 217, something horrible has awakened. Something hiding inside Brady Hartsfield, the possessed maniac known as Mr. Mercedes. Although he still cannot speak or move, his consciousness is awake. But who can even for a moment suppose that behind the city-shaking series of mysterious deaths lies a now helpless criminal? Except for retired cop Bill Hodges, who has had to deal with Mr. Mercedes twice.
