The book is written by the authors of the popular podcast "Syrian Mystics Answer" (Arzamas) -- Maxim Kalinin (philologist, translator, research associate of the Church-wide Graduate School and teacher at the Institute of Classical Eastern Studies and Antiquity at the Higher School of Economics) and Philip Dzyadko (journalist and TV host, writer, creator and chief editor of educational projects Arzamas and “Goose-goose”).
Throughout human history, there have always been periods when millions of people lost support and hope. We remember well the events of the 20th century, and many of us may feel lost right now. But few know that a similar era for many nations was the 7th century. Empires, once thought eternal, proved powerless against the Arab invasion. Byzantium was rapidly losing its eastern territories. The destruction of centuries-old social relations deprived people of a sense of support and made them believe that the end of the world was near.
