Gone at Midnight

The captivating investigation by freelance journalist Jake Anderson is dedicated to the mysterious disappearance and death of student Elisa Lam, who suffered from bipolar disorder. The incident occurred in 2013 at the notorious Cecil Hotel. The police investigation ended with no results, and since then, many people around the world have attempted to solve this case independently. Why didn’t the dogs scent the corpse on the roof? Why didn’t the forensic experts find signs of drowning, and why was there no examination for rape? Jake Anderson methodically dismisses popular and implausible versions of suicide and paranormal phenomena, asking increasingly precise questions and getting closer to the solution.
The uniqueness of the investigation lies not only in its detail but also in the fact that the author himself suffers from bipolar disorder, which allows him to understand like no one else how the girl lived and what she felt before her disappearance.
