Counterpoint. Genius and Goddess

"Counterpoint" - the largest work by Aldous Huxley that describes several months in the life of the intellectual elite of London. There are no main characters or a central plot. Like musical counterpoint, which implies the combination of two or more melodic voices, Huxley's novel is an intertwining of different fates, a story about the lives of many people who, in one way or another, fall within the writer's gaze. They meet in cafes and restaurants, attend high-society receptions, quarrel, gossip, and slander. There is no purpose in all of this – just one senseless polyphony. This is how Huxley views his contemporaries, and the modern reader will surely hear many familiar voices in this chorus. "Genius and Goddess" A love triangle... It seems like a rather banal story. The plot of the novel is indeed simple: a famous scientist has a wife of divine beauty. And a young talented student. Of course, passion flares up between the student and the "goddess." This can lead to nothing good. What else can one expect from a love triangle? But Aldous Huxley managed to fill this story with depth, touching on important questions of fate and personal choice, the conflict between feeling and duty, honor and love.
