Stoic

Theodore Dreiser (1871—1945) was an American writer and public figure, creator of "An American Tragedy" and "The Financier." The ninth child in the family, but three older brothers died. He was forced to drop out of university. Worked as a... clerk and a laundry cart driver. Wrote for magazines "Metropolitan," "Harpers," "Cosmopolitan." His first novel "Sister Carrie" (1900) was met with extreme hostility by the puritanically inclined public and critics. In 1944, he received an Honorary Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievements in Arts and Literature from the "American Academy of Arts and Letters." He actively participated in rallies and published in the pages of the communist press in the USA. In 1927, he traveled to the USSR and published the book "Dreiser Looks at Russia." 
The final novel of the "Desire Trilogy" released after Theodore Dreiser's death is "Stoic." Frank Cowperwood, a millionaire financier of retirement age, moves his business to London after a crash in Chicago—and continues to achieve success, but death has its own plans…
