Cornelius Tacitus is rightly considered one of the most significant historians of Ancient Rome. "Annals," that is, a list of the most important historical events "from the death of the divine Augustus" by years, is his last and largest work.... The "Annals" record events from 14 to 68 AD, that is, from the moment of the death of Emperor Octavian Augustus to the end of the reign of the Julian-Claudian dynasty; the fragments of this invaluable historical work that have survived to our day are devoted to the times of the reigns of Tiberius and Nero, partially to Claudius. In Tacitus' historical works, the author's literary talent is evident, and now, nearly two millennia later, they serve as an example of masterful work with sources and impress with the depth of psychological characterization of the characters. It is no coincidence that his works gained wide recognition in Europe in the modern era and undoubtedly influenced the development of its historical and political thought.
