Critical Thinking. How to Make Reasoned and Balanced Decisions

There are a huge number of self-help books. Some say that we are capable of achieving any goal we set for ourselves, including limitless happiness, and they explain how to do it. Others attempt to alleviate the suffering that befalls... us when we do not achieve such a goal. However, true help lies not in thoughtlessly following someone else's recommendations, but in learning to think critically and make decisions based on the specific situation and our worldview. Because the art of thinking is directly dependent on the circumstances surrounding us and the proper interpretation of the context. As soon as we master both of these tools, the effectiveness of our decisions and tasks will significantly increase.
The legacy of great philosophers can greatly assist us here. This is a mental exercise that can be engaged in at any age and in which perfection is achieved as a person learns to rid themselves of the prejudices and bad habits acquired throughout life — habits that are essentially the very excess weight that prevents us from developing freely and forces us to struggle against ourselves every day. Thus, both our children or students, and we ourselves will be able to enjoy the main component of a happy life: mental hygiene. For philosophy is nothing but a love for knowledge, and behind it lies more than two thousand years of experience, during which it has among other things sought the answer to an extremely important question: how to live a worthy life.
