Laferdorf Poppy Seller

Antoniy Pogorelskiy was the first in Russian literature to use mystical and fantastic elements in his prose — in 1825 he composed "Laferdorf Poppy Seller." This work was praised by Pushkin himself, who particularly loved the image of one of the characters — the werecat Murlykin. The heroine of the tale, an eighty-year-old seller of poppy cakes living in the Laferdorf district of Moscow, is actually a powerful witch who keeps the whole area in fear. One day, a neighbor asks the old woman to cast a spell for her daughter’s groom... This edition also includes other tales by the author, the novel "Monastirka," and the famous fairy tale "The Black Hen, or Underground Dwellers."
