Oscar Wilde, as one of the brightest representatives of English decadence, advocated the philosophy of "art for art's sake" and first formulated the main tenets of his aesthetic program in the lecture "The Revival of English Art," later developing them in the essays "The Decay of Lying," "The Critic as Artist," "The Truth of Masks," which were united in 1891 into the cycle "Ideas." In his brilliant texts on literature, painting, and society, Wilde glorifies Art – the greatest sanctuary, the supreme deity, of which the writer was a fanatical priest. This edition also includes the treatise "The Soul of Man Under Socialism."
