Great Collectors of Our Time. Europe and Asia

The book by English art historian James Stourton "Great Collectors of Our Time" is devoted to the most famous collectors of Europe and Asia in the 20th century. The author tells that the subject of collection included any works of... art: from primitive masks to modernist painting and sculpture, from Chinese porcelain to European silverware, and collectors came from different backgrounds with varying financial capabilities: industrial magnates, noble aristocrats, renowned couturiers, and ordinary clerks. In many ways, it was the collectors and their demand for certain art objects that shaped the art market in the 20th century and, in some sense, the position on the art scene as such.
