I Cannot Remain Silent. A Mysterious Phenomenon

This collection includes two articles written by L.N. Tolstoy in 1908: 1) "I Cannot Remain Silent"; 2) "The Law of Hatred and the Law of Love", as well as a short story by A.P. Gilyarov "A Mysterious Phenomenon in the Dream of Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy to the Railway Watchman at the Aстапово Station".
Inspired by the mass repressions against peasants, the great Russian writer and thinker turned to the theme of violence by the state and the just organization of society. Criticizing the official position of the Russian Orthodox Church, L.N. Tolstoy returns to the roots of Christianity, to the text of the Gospels, convincingly proving the harmfulness of violating fundamental ethical and religious norms by those in power for the sake of establishing an illusory "public tranquility".
The profound thoughts of L.N. Tolstoy presented in this collection have enduring value. They are relevant even today.
