The book reflects the worldview of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar and contains the essence of his teachings on yoga, which he arrived at during his many years of sadhana. "The very essence of my teaching is the striving to demonstrate, with maximum practicality and benefit, that any perfected component of yoga contains the essence of the other aspects, the macrocosm in the microcosm, or the universal in the particular, just as the genetic code is contained in the DNA of each of our cells."
