This book is the second attempt to explain to myself, and also to everyone interested, what the letters of the Russian alphabet are and why they look the way they do. Since the first attempt was made, the author has... gained experience with three hundred fonts, or at least sixty thousand letters made by hand. During the time that has passed since the first edition, the author's views have changed significantly. They have become more independent — and more radical. In this regard, the book has been rewritten by about two-thirds, increased in volume by a third and, I hope, has become better.
