Sanshiro

Natsume Soseki was one of the most educated representatives of the Europeanized Japanese intelligentsia of the early 20th century, and at the same time - a typical Japanese. This duality allowed him to create his unique literary style, which is... still appealing to modern readers. Sanshiro Ogawa - a 23-year-old native of a village on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu - enters Tokyo University and meets the students and professors that make up his new environment. Psychologically, Sanshiro is immersed in three worlds: the native land, where he was previously closely connected with his mother; the university community, where intellectuals waste themselves in the pursuit of academic success; and the realm of feelings and emotions, brought to him by a girl named Mineko.
