Introduction to Chinese Language

The textbook represents the first concentrated presentation of educational material on the phonetics of the Chinese language and the basics of spoken Chinese in Russia. It describes the elements of Chinese pronunciation in comparison with Russian. The method of forming individual speech sounds is presented in the order in which the actual learning process occurs. All sections contain methodological recommendations. Exercises are highlighted in a separate section and placed at the end of the introductory phonetic course. The vocabulary used for examples is taken from existing literature on the subject published in China, as well as from dialogues included in the "Chinese Spoken Language" section of this textbook.
The introductory course in Chinese spoken language is a logical continuation of the introductory phonetic course. It employs the principle of situational dialogues considering real situations that may arise in the conditions of St. Petersburg.
Appendices to the textbook include: 1) educational material on spoken language in hieroglyphic notation; 2) a comparative table of various transcription systems of Chinese language syllables.
