Taras Bulba

The story "Taras Bulba" tells, above all, about brotherhood, honor, loyalty to comrades and the homeland. 

These principles upheld the Zaporozhian brotherhood to which the main characters belong. 

The plot is based on the history of the uprising of the Zaporozhian Cossacks in 1637–1638.
The vivid, rich illustrations by Dementiy Shmarinov combine both the fullness of life of the characters and the tragedy of its ending.
