Siren of the Deep Sea

After being freed from Japanese occupation in 1945, power in Korea was seized by a nationalist government, which, with American support, began to exterminate the communist-inclined part of the population. In 1948, troops landed on Jeju Island, where in the village of Lonely Cliff lived a young beauty named Chungja. The girl herself, as well as her mother and grandmother, were haenyeo, divers who submerged daily into the sea depths to harvest seaweed and mollusks for food and sale. However, repression from the authorities is intensifying. People are seized and killed on the slightest suspicion. An innocent victim was Chungja's mother, and her fiancé Suwol nearly perished. The girl understands that difficult trials await her ahead. How can she survive in this harsh world?
