The Odyssey

The personality of the legendary ancient Greek poet Homer remains a mystery, but he is considered the author of the greatest monuments of world literature – the “Iliad” and the “Odyssey,” known for their enduring glory. His poems had a tremendous impact on world literature, enriching poetry with the canonical meter – the hexameter, and providing material for historians of the customs and morals of that era. The “Odyssey” is a narrative about the adventures of the mythical hero named Odysseus during his return home after the Trojan War, as well as about the fate of his wife Penelope, who awaited her husband on Ithaca. The poem has inspired many artists and sculptors to create their immortal masterpieces.
